Message from the Principal’s Office
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The first term of our school year at Marnebek School has seen many events, opportunities and learning experiences across both campuses.
Thank you to all staff within our school for their dedication and commitment to student learning throughout this term.
Our Capital Works Project is complete with minor aspects of landscaping to be completed over the coming school holidays. Thank you to all within our school community for your patience and understanding whilst this project has been underway. During the last 2 years, we have seen construction, lots of mud!, hoarding, relocation of classrooms, shifting staff students to other schools, traffic management and much more. We have state-of-the-art facilities for our students and staff, a warm and welcoming learning environment and a connected school community.
The Investiture Ceremony and Open Day is a wonderful celebration of our student leaders and an opportunity for our school community to walk through our new facilities. Most importantly a Smoking ceremony will take place; acknowledging the country, Indigenous community and leaders is important to us.

Welcome to 8C
Learning to read and write is one of the most important educational outcomes in primary and secondary education. The ability to read is fundamental to student learning, including their development of broader literacy skills, and to their future successful participation in society, including the workforce. Reading is a complex process that involves both learning to decode texts and learning to make meaning from texts.
Marnebek School teachers are proud to say that we provide a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy. We use the Read Write Inc and Fresh Start phonics program that is proven to create fluent, enthusiastic readers, confident speakers and willing writers. It incorporates effective classroom management strategies that ensure participation and fast progress for all students.
(Read Write Inc, 2024)
The Year 8 teachers have been working with our students and the Read Write Inc/Fresh Start program to improve reading and writing skills. In Term 1, we have added phonics rotations into our literacy program, and it has been a fantastic experience! The rotations include targeted learning activities to increase engagement and learning outcomes in phonics. We would like to share with the families, carers and guardians of our students the following snapshots taken during the phonics rotation sessions. Swimming at Casey Race and Electives programs on Fridays.
Allied Health
Big Muscle Group is a physiotherapy-led program created in Term 1 to increase overall strength and encourage students to show responsibility. Every Friday, this group setup for assembly by working in pairs, taking turns to push and pull the cushions to create seating for their classmates. They not only built strength through their arms and legs to shift the cushions, but also increased development in spatial awareness to create rows and ensure there’s enough space for others to walk in between and practiced their communication skills working as a team. A big strong thank you to the following students who have participated: Jayden Perrins, Nefu Lui, Nyachuol Tany, Alwyn Shiju, Hirun Aldeniya, Akhil Sebastian, Jed Sims and Dylan Ly. We are hoping to continue this program in Term 2 because one can see how the students are proud and empowered while creating this environment for their peers.
Industry Focused Skills (IFS) – Music Program
The music program during the IFS has started off with a bang! The students have created an environment where we are all free to explore and be as creative as possible. The groups we have running now are:
Relaxation
Ukulele & Guitar learning
Digital Music
Songwriting
Music Appreciation
Relaxation
A great way to start the big engaging day by relaxing into the session through some slow movement and calming strategies.
Ukulele & Guitar Learning
Students have started to learn the basics of how to play the ukulele and guitar. All students have taken this with two hands and inspired/motivated each other through these early stages of learning these new instruments.
Digital Music
Students have engaged in GarageBand, which is free music/recording software built into their school iPads. Students are learning how to record and layer preferred sounds and start to either re-create songs they love or create their own sound.
Songwriting
Students are beginning to learn what songwriting is and how we can use it to help express oneself. We are exploring different techniques of songwriting creating and inspiring students to self-develop their own method of expression.
Music Appreciation:
This is at the end of the day when students bring together what they have learnt in the day. We listen to our preferred music or recap on what we have learnt and achieved in the day.
Welcome to 9/10
Throughout this term, the 9/10 grade students have delved into the exciting world of 3D design software, specifically exploring the capabilities of Tinkercad. In their elective classes, these budding creators have embarked on a thrilling journey of discovery and skill development.
From the very first lesson, it became evident that Tinkercad offered a user-friendly platform for designing and visualizing three-dimensional objects. The students eagerly embraced the opportunity to learn and experiment, starting with the fundamental tools and techniques the software provides.
Under the guidance of their instructors, these young minds navigated through the intuitive user interface, quickly grasping the concepts of shapes, transformations, and grouping elements. With each passing session, their confidence grew, and they became more adept at bringing their ideas to life in the virtual space.
As the students honed their skills in Tinkercad, they began to explore increasingly complex designs. They set out to create intricate structures, mechanical models, personalized jewelry, and even prototypes for future inventions. The software empowered them to manifest their imagination into digital reality, igniting sparks of creativity and innovative thinking.
But Tinkercad offered more than just a canvas for artistic expression. It also became a tool for problem-solving and critical thinking. These students discovered the power of precise measurements, understanding that every fraction of an inch can make a difference in the final outcome. They learned to overcome challenges, troubleshoot design flaws, and iterate on their models to achieve perfection.
What truly elevated their experience was the collaborative nature of the learning environment. As they embarked on various group projects, the students collaborated, brainstormed, and shared ideas to create remarkable designs collectively. Through this collaborative process, they developed their communication and teamwork skills, learning not only from their own mistakes and successes but also from their peers.
Beyond the confines of the classroom, this exploration of Tinkercad has opened doors to potential future careers in architecture, engineering, product design, and more. The skills they have acquired hold incredible value in industries that rely on innovative thinking and technological advancements.
In this elective, the 9th and 10th grade students have seized the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of 3D design using Tinkercad. Through hands-on experiences and a supportive learning environment, they have developed a deep appreciation for the creative process, problem-solving, and the limitless possibilities of digital design.
As they conclude this exploration, these students leave with not only a newfound expertise in Tinkercad but also with a sense of accomplishment and a foundation for future endeavors in the ever-evolving realm of 3D design.

Welcome Corinne Johnson
Name and position: Corinne Johnson - Education Support Corrigan’s Road Campus
What I like most about my work: One of the things that I find most rewarding about working in Education Support is achieving the little goals with students. These small victories may seem insignificant to some, but they are truly special moments that can make a big difference in a student's life. Whether it's helping a student understand a difficult concept, improving their confidence, or celebrating a milestone, these achievements are worth celebrating.
Sharing these special moments with students and seeing the joy and pride in their eyes is priceless. It's these moments that remind me why I chose to work in Education Support and inspire me to continue making a difference in the lives of students.
My spare time: I’m a proud mum to 3 beautiful children (Logan aged 6, and boy girl twins Harley and Grace aged 3). I love going on family adventures and spending quality time together, even if it’s just enjoying a simple tea party or dance party with the kids.
I enjoy watching NRL (Go Storm), love live music, and enjoy seeing others smile. I also have a passion for photography as a side hobby.
Here are the photos: of me and my family.
