Respectful Relationships
Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships
In February 2015, Australia’s first Royal Commission into Family Violence was carried out. Evidence presented to the Commission highlighted that prevention is the best strategy to reduce the incidence of family violence. It was also identified that schools play a critical role in creating a culture of respect.
As a result of this finding, the Department of Education and Training, in consultation with organisations such as Our Watch, produced the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program for all Primary and Secondary schools. The program aims to banish gender stereotyping and promote gender equity and respectful relationships, both of which are instrumental in preventing family violence. It also supports students to develop social, emotional and positive relationship skills.
The Respectful Relationships program is taught to all Marnebek students, who are provided multiple opportunities to practice the skills promoted in the program.
More information about Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships can be found on the Department of Education website.
