Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parent’s and Guardians,

Hello and welcome back to Term 2!

It has been a brilliant start to the term with lots happening for our school. Last week we started our school review process. This has involved the review team gaining an understanding of our school through; observing lessons, speaking to students, staff and the wider community and collecting evidence of the work we do as a school. Over the coming weeks the review panel will set new goals for the school (which cover the next 4 years) and we will share these with the community once finalised.

Therapy Dogs

Our new therapy dogs attended both of our campuses for the first time this week. Cayley and Bailey will be visiting every Wednesday to work with groups of students as a part of our wellbeing program. Parents and carers of selected students will be contacted prior to sessions for consent.

Sporting Events

Interschool Basketball resumed on Friday and students from our lower secondary school will participate against others schools at Casey Stadium. Well done to the Year 4 students who participated in a week-long swimming program last week, thanks to the staff for supporting this very important life skill. Today, a large number of students took part in a Cross Country Carnival and it was so great to see so many students give 100% effort to a very tiring event!

ANZAC Day

At assembly today, we focused on the importance of ANZAC day and some of our senior students demonstrated what they have been learning in class. As a school we reflected on the sacrifices that have gone before us and spoke about how camaraderie and resilience is evident in our school every day. Thank you to our flag captain, Jesse Landells and parents for attending our Corrigans Road campus at dawn on Thursday to fly our flags at half mast and pay their respects.

Have a great weekend!

Regards,

Luke Bennett

Anzac Day Dawn Service

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them.
— The Ode

A big thank you to Jesse our Flag Captain for representing Marnebek School On Anzac Day.

A part of the Flag Captain's duties is honouring those who have passed with a dawn service on Anzac Day and Jesse and his family truly did a amazing job.

Prep B - Anzac Day

"This year in class 4B, our students combined their understanding of ANZAC day commemorations and their developing knowledge of Aboriginal Art to create a poppy display with a difference.

Instead of a simple impression of a poppy, each small poppy was decorated by the students with indigenous inspired designed.  Using dots was certainly a popular design choice.

Students have enjoyed looking at different ways of commemorating the soldiers sacrifice, we have looked at marching in parades, dawn services and the creation of wreaths.

Initially students were interested in making wreaths with their carefully decorated poppies, but decided a field of poppies looked nicest. "

Welcome to 8A

8A have had a fantastic start to term two! They have been putting in a lot of effort across all subjects to improve their skills and understanding. In English, they have been working hard in their phonics groups and practising their handwriting. In Maths, they have been focusing on place value. This week, we even made ANZAC biscuits while learning about ANZAC Day. It's been a great start to the term. Keep up the awesome work, 8A!

Who’s Who @Marnebek

Kate Cattle

Hello everyone, my name is Kate Cattle, and I am new to the position of education support at Marnebek. I am excited to part of such a welcoming, helpful, and caring team. Each day is never the same, I am currently studying a Batchelor of education and am learning an abundance of skills, techniques, and classroom management styles. I have enjoyed developing connections with students, being someone that can help them and am looking forward to knowing I’m assisting in their progress.

I have moved to Melbourne in the last year and still enjoy traveling home to a farm in NSW where I spend time with family, ride motorbikes, and play with my many pets. I have found a great group of friends in Melbourne who have made it feel like a second home. We enjoy hanging out together watching movies, go cart riding, escape rooms and anything else we can explore together. Another interest I have been able to explore in Melbourne is the enormous range of cuisine as where I’m from there are fewer choices.

I look forward to the new experiences and knowledge this position will give me as well as getting to know everyone better as my experience has already been so welcoming.
