Message from the Principal

Jenny Hamilton

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to term 3. I hope you had a fabulous holiday break, We have many exciting events happening at the school this term starting with our Duke of Ed Adventure and Parks & Gardens Adventure Camps coming up next week. During the term students will also engage in sporting events, excursions, swimming programs and much more.

Our students have settled well after returning from the holidays and we are looking forward to another exciting term ahead with planned camps and excursions.

School Assemblies continue to be on Friday at 10am and we are thrilled with the large number of families that join us online including grandparents and wider family members.

Last week our students who are at Cranbourne Primary school participated in their smoking ceremony which was an absolute highlight.  Smoking ceremonies are used for burial, celebration, healing and 'clearance' (cleansing), and are also a gesture of goodwill, bringing people together and  performing the ceremony for another is a gift and a blessing.  Our students were thoroughly engaged in the ceremony and we were very proud of them.

The Capital Works project is continuing to make good progress despite the wintery weather and all demolition work has now been completed.

We are continuing to work closely with the builders Ireland Brown to ensure that any issues that occur ( such as parent parking areas) are quickly resolved. We thank you for your patience with this.

Work has also begun in refurbishment of the Administration building which is also very exciting.

NAIDOC Week 2022

This NAIDOC Week, students at Marnebek School reflected and celebrated the history and culture of First Nations people by participating in various classroom activities including a Smoking Ceremony hosted by Cranbourne Primary School.

Student summary written by Brock Wilford on behalf of 9/10D

This week in 9/10 D, we’ve been learning about Naidoc week (National, Aboriginal, Islanders, Day, Observance, Committee) where all the Aboriginals and Islanders celebrate their freedom. We have all been doing some hands-on activities for Naidoc week like word searches, coloring in the Aboriginal/Islander flag.

We all have participated in classroom discussions, our classroom has done somethings around Naidoc week and famous Aboriginal people. We’ve also watched some videos about Naidoc week like, how Naidoc week became a thing and the legal fight they had to go through to get their freedom. It was very inspiring for the class to learn about another culture and do some fun activities for Naidoc week.

News from Learning Neighbourhood 2 | Cranbourne Primary School

First, we had an assembly. Jett read the Acknowledgement of country. Then, two Bunurong men gave a speech about respecting the land and taking only what we need from the nature. After, we had a smoking ceremony, they played a musical instrument digeridoo. Finally, we went back to the classroom and learnt about the colours of the Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag.
