Message from the Principal’s Office
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another exciting fortnight at Marnebek School as we edge closer to the final weeks of the school year. Today we commemorated Remembrance Day with a special assembly which featured reflections from family members of Marnebek staff. Staff shared stories on behalf of their parents and grandparents that had served in wars gone by. Thank you to Jenny Hamilton for sharing your father and grandfathers stories of service; and Ruth Cameron who shared her Grandfathers experience who served in World War II. Both stories were incredibly moving and going by the engagement of our students, I’m certain our students have grown a little richer by listening to their amazing stories.
On Monday teaching staff completed their Professional Practice Day which gave them the opportunity to plan for the remainder of this year and beyond. Due to this and low numbers of students on Melbourne Cup eve, students participated in organised fun activities. It was a great atmosphere and great to see students enjoying different activities form the traditional classroom setting.
Term 4 is always an exciting time at Marnebek School with lots of wonderful events happening across all learning neighbourhoods. Please take note as some are involve some important information for families moving in 2024. We also have celebratory events we would love you to be part of:

Excursion at Melbourne Park! Senior Pathways students were taught surfing techniques AND had an absolute blast!
Class 10/11B have taken their exploration of Aboriginal culture to a new level as they learn how to create Aboriginal style paintings using colours that were traditionally used in indigenous art. The students have also been learning how to read and create stories using traditional symbols and icons. These symbols and icons have been used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to share important cultural stories and messages for generations.
Our students have enjoyed creating short messages using the icons and some students have begun to incorporate these icons into their indigenous art. Each symbol used communicates a different meaning about life on our earth, important Aboriginal rituals and customs, as well as traditional foods. These photographs clearly show the pride the students feel in creating their individualised pieces of art.
