Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a great week we have had at Marnebek School. There have been many exciting events happening across both campuses for our school community.

On Tuesday 25th August, we held our yearly Careers Expo at our Corrigans Road Campus which is always a highlight for our community. There are many options for students post school and we always encourage students of all ages to attend to see what pathways are out there for students.

On Friday 28th August, as part of NAIDOC Week celebration at our school, Sean Candy, from Digeridoos Australia came to perform at our assembly. This was a highlight for our community and we thank Sean for attending our assembly.

Interschool sports has started with the senior students. This term the sports are football and netball. We wish the teams every success!

Thank you for all of your patience and understanding to all of our staff, parents and community with the road closures at New Holland Drive.

Enjoy your weekend and remember to always be kind.

Kind regards,
Ruth Cameron | Assistant Principal | Learning Neighbourhood 1

8/9 Cohort have had some fantastic cooking sessions this term. Many students also participated in a successful team cooking session. Classes joined together to cook and eat curry and rice together. The atmosphere was pleasant and aromatic. Through cooking, students are introduced to fresh, healthy and new foods in a hygienic surrounding.

This helps them to develop health eating habits and social skills. Many students were open to trying new foods that they have helped to cook. The students chatted and shared their knowledge and stories about different foods and encouraged each other to have a go. It was a team building exercise that provided an opportunity for students to support each other, develop their skills, try new things and develop friendships.

Wellbeing Tip

There are many ways that we can look after our health and wellbeing but research has found that one of the most helpful strategies is to use mindfulness.

When we think about mindfulness some people think it is a bit silly. I promise you it is not silly, it can just be a bit hard at first but the more we practice, the better we will get. Mindfulness has been proven to help our concentration, emotion regulation and relationships.

Have a go at the following mindfulness exercise and notice how you feel before, during and after the exercise.

Five Senses Exercise

  • Notice five things that you can see. Look around you. ...

  • Notice four things that you can feel. Tune into your sense of touch. ...

  • Notice three things you can hear. Listen carefully. ...

  • Notice two things you can smell. Notice and name two smells you recognize.

  • Notice one thing you can taste.

Who’s Who @Marnebek

Laura Anning | Education Support

Hi - I’m Lauren and I’m an Education Support worker in the 6/7s!

The things I love about working at Marnebek is the team environment and building positive relationships with the students.

In my spare time I enjoy catching up with friends, camping, and cooking for friends and family.

I have two daughters Abbey (12) and Lilly (9) who both play footy – so that’s where you’ll find me on the weekends during the colder months. My AFL team is the Brisbane Lions, we love going to watch them play when in Melbourne.

I also have a cat who is the size of a small dog and is super fluffy! His name is Bob.
