Every Day Counts
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year and it’s important to remember that every day at Marnebek counts. Every absence means missed chances to engage in classroom activities and participate in valuable hand-on activities. We want our students to embrace these moments and seize every opportunity for growth. Students cannot achieve their full potential if they do not regularly attend school.
We understand that barriers to attendance are complex, and that some students find it harder than others to attend school; therefore, we will continue to promote and celebrate good attendance through weekly assemblies and rewards within our ‘Spin the Wheel’ game.
I am immensely proud of our dedicated teachers, staff, and students who have worked tirelessly to make these first two weeks memorable.
Wishing you all the best for a wonderful Term 3.
Kind regards,
Jennifer Hamilton | Executive Principal

As we are almost halfway through another wonderful school year, we are excitedly putting together the 2023 school yearbook to commemorate all the cherised moments and achievements of our students.
Our yearbook aims to capture the essence of our school community and its various activities, including classroom interactions, extracurricular events, sports, and other special occasions. It serves as a lasting keepsake for our students, providing them with a collection of memories they can look back on fondly in the future.
We would like to include all of our wonderful students across all year levels. However, if you do NOT wish for your child's photo to be included in the yearbook, please send an email to anke.stevens@education.vic.gov.au as soon as possible, and we will ensure we update our media permissions.

News from 2/3A by Richard Gay
Hello from 2/3A !
We have had lots of fun exploring a new green spinning ‘roundabout’ from our wonderful Therapy Team, learning some gross motor coordination skills and demonstrating social skills along the way,. By sharing the item we demonstrate respect for each other.
3D Shapes were a fiddly little item to make though we persevered and demonstrated resilience and having a go. In science we learnt about which clothes we need for each kind of weather.
We’ve also been practicing phonics with our terrific new whole school program called Read Write Inc. Starting with the letters m. a, s and d we’ve been learning their sound in addition to their name. Also practising some three letter cvc words and using our LAMP devices to aid communication and with fun encouragement from Cody our terrific class Educational Support .
Finally, the new playground has provided plenty of opportunities to explore and challenge each child’s ability to climb and move during much enjoyed movement breaks.
News from Performing Arts by Hannah Candy
I'm super thrilled to share the incredible journey we've had in our Performing Arts classes this term.
Grade 4/5: Groovin' to the Beat from Around the World!
Our fantastic Grade 4 and 5 students have been making music from different parts of the globe. They've been exploring beats and rhythms like true musical explorers! From African drums to Latin maracas, they've been creating a fabulous orchestra right in our classroom.
The best part? They've been working together, making awesome music, and building skills like teamwork and coordination. It's seriously music to my ears!
Grade 2/3: Dancing Stars of Inclusion 21!
Our amazing Grade 2 and 3 students are on a dancing adventure with the Inclusion 21 Dance Program! They've been having a blast with dance warm-ups, cool-downs, and fun movement activities that let them show off their creativity and style.
What's even more heartwarming is how they support and cheer each other on, embracing their unique moves. I'm so proud of them! Next up, they'll be learning a c dance sequence to perform at the end of the term. I can't wait to see their dance floor magic!
Upcoming Awesomeness: More Music, Dance, and Drama!
Guess what? The fun doesn't stop here! We've got a whole lot more excitement lined up for the rest of the term in our Performing Arts classes.
Our students are all superstars, and we're going to keep nurturing their talents and creativity. Whether it's rockin' the beats, groovin' on the dance floor, or shining on the stage, we're here to support and encourage every step of the way.
Let's make this term a melody of laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments in the world of performing arts!
SSV State Cross Country
Our students have once again proven themselves on the athletic stage, showcasing remarkable dedication, determination, and endurance in the recent State Cross Country Championships. Well done everyone!
News from Corrigans Rd Campus
Performance incoming! News from Music Therapy by Dylan Corcoran
On 25/07/2023, we have our career expo at Corrigans Road. We will also have some performances from talented, hard-working students at night. One will be from our Marn ‘A’ Rockers group, where they will perform a song. We will also have a performance from one of our dance groups, performing two dance routines.
I am excited to announce that we have started a senior group. This is where the year 12s graduating are coming together to create something special for graduation collaboratively. The rest is a secret and a surprise, but all the students have been receptive and enjoyed the creative process.
The dance program has continued this term with the groups working hard to learn certain routines from our excellent dance instructor Tina from Inclusion 21. Inclusion 21 will be at our career’s night to help promote what they do and answer any questions you may have.
We are running various groups, including DJ, Ukulele Learning, Piano Learning, and Music Sharing, which the students signed up to have enjoyed. Soon we will introduce Karaoke Mondays and Marn ‘A’ Rave Tuesdays led by the students.
News from 10/11B by Katie Ayrton
A highlight each week for the senior students is an opportunity to learn food handling skills and cooking techniques in our Food Technology program. Each week the students prepare simple meals that they also are able to eat. This week’s lesson on preparing chicken stir fry was followed closely by all the students. What a great way to develop an essential life skill!
News from Parks & Gardens Program
This week the Trainees went on a street walk to the parks in the area of Corrigans Rd to conduct a visual inspection of park facilities. This included measuring the safe distances from edges and hard surfaces from play equipment. Students checked there was no broken or rusted equipment, and also checked the park for any hazards and issues that require attention.

Who’s Who @Marnebek
Anthony Richards (Ants) | Leading Teacher | Wellbeing
Hi everyone,
My name is Anthony Richards, but everyone calls me Ant! I am the new Leading Teacher (Wellbeing) at the New Holland campus and I’m super excited to be part of the Marnebek team! I’ve been teaching now for over 20 years, most recently at Naranga Special school in Karingal, but prior to that in primary mainstream schools. My favourite part of my job is working alongside the students and watching them grow as a result of their successes. It’s so rewarding!
I’m married to Prue, who’s also a teacher, and I have two children, Tilly (14) and Gus (11). We love to spend lots of time outdoors. We enjoy caravanning together on holidays and spend most weekends at the beach over summer. My favourite sport is sailing (as you can see in the picture). I also like to go surfing and I play Baseball. And of course, I follow the greatest AFL team on earth, the Richmond Tigers! I love blues guitar music, my favourite movie is “The Blues Brothers”, I love to cook and my favourite food is a simple lamb roast!
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and thank you for already making me feel so welcome.
Keep smiling,
Ant Richards
Shaun Simpson | Leading Teacher | Wellbeing
Hi,
My name is Shaun, I am a new Leading Teacher with a Wellbeing focus at our Senior Campus on Corrigans Rd. I started here last week and have really enjoyed getting to know the students so far. Something I have loved seeing is all the students help each other. I have seen students help each other with their school work, help each other to class, help each other on and off the bus and much more. It is really refreshing to see everyone look out for each other. Keep up the great work!
A little bit about me now:
I have worked in schools for just over 6 years, having predominantly worked in the Wellbeing space across 3 different Secondary Schools. I go for the mighty Essendon Bombers and love to watch them play on the weekends. I also really enjoy playing golf and soccer.
Something that I consider myself good at is listening. So if students are having a bad day, I really want to encourage them to come and talk to me and I will do my best to help.
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone more and please reach out if you wish to talk to me.
