Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been another exciting fortnight at Marnebek School as we head towards the end of term 2. This week was ‘Reconciliation Week’, which gave us the opportunity to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. There was some great student work on reconciliation week which we highlighted in today’s assembly.

Last night we hosted Sexual Health Victoria for a parent information session on ‘Relationships and Sexuality Education’. Parents were given information and tools to support their children at home and how to engage in positive communication. Thank you to all the parents who attended.

Learning Neighbourhood 2 and 3 students continue to represent the school with pride and sportsmanship at Casey Basketball Stadium in the Friday morning basketball competition. Over 50 students participate against students from other schools in the southern region. It is always a favourite part of my week hearing how well the students have participated upon their return. Keep up the great work!

Year 8/9 students from LNH 3 have continued their community partnership with Chisholm TAFE. Each Monday our students attend a multisport clinic run by Chisholm Sport and Recreation students at the Berwick Campus. Furthermore, Football Australia have been on site at LNH 3 running ‘soccer sessions’. The sessions have bene lots of fun with great connections made.

Safety of our school community is a high priority.  Parking, traffic management and buses during our morning and afternoons is increasingly challenging at New Holland Drive and Corrigan's Rd. Please drive slowly, adhere to the parking signs and take your time when driving, parking and walking into the school.

As we move into winter, I hope you all stay warm this weekend and we look forward to seeing our wonderful students on Monday.

Kind regards,
Liam Mara | Assistant Principal | Learning Neighbourhood 3

CAPITAL WORKS UPDATE

Dear school community,

I wanted to update you about the upgrade and modernisation project at Marnebek School.

As you would be aware, construction of 3 new double-storey learning neighbourhood buildings across our two campuses were completed ahead of this term.

This has allowed all staff and students to return to New Holland Drive and Corrigans Road campuses and enjoy the fantastic new facilities.

I want to thank our whole school community – including students, staff, parents and carers – for your ongoing support and enthusiasm throughout the project so far.

We will continue to see the further works on the project take shape over the coming months.

Remaining works at New Holland Drive include the fit-out and refurbishment of the resource-intensive learning building and the extension of the BER building, as well as construction of a new basketball court and associated landscaping works.

The entire project is expected to be completed in Term 1, 2024.

As you may be aware, Marnebek School received $38.843 million in the 2020-21 State Budget for this significant upgrade.

If you have any further questions about the works at Marnebek School, you can phone the VSBA on 1800 896 950, email vsba@education.vic.gov.au or visit the website: www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au/marnebek-school-cranbourne

Thank you

Jennifer Hamilton

Stay well this winter

Symptoms of influenza (flu) can hit very quickly and may last several weeks. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting the flu.

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended from mid-April each year and is free under the National Immunisation Program for those at higher risk of complications from the flu.

Keeping our school community well

Parents, carers and students are encouraged to practice prevention measures, including:

  • washing and sanitising hands regularly

  • avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

  • covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing · staying home if unwell and consulting a general practitioner (GP) or Nurse-on-call as required

  • staying up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Flu vaccinations

Flu vaccinations can be booked through GPs and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Some people are more at risk of complications from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.

COVID-19 booster

The 2023 COVID-19 booster dose is available for everyone aged 18 and above.

Getting your booster dose remains the best way to prevent severe illness or hospitalisation, especially in people aged over 65 and those at higher risk of severe illness.

You can have your booster dose 6 months after your last dose or COVID infection.

Children aged between 5 and 17 years who are at risk of severe illness can also receive a 2023 booster dose. You can get your next dose at your local pharmacy or GP. To find one near you, refer to the vaccine clinic finder.

Compass Parent Portal

Compass is our primary parent communication tool for day-to-day operational matters, upcoming events, notices and notifications so it is essential that all parents download the app.

Please ensure you log into Compass to update your family contact details. This ensures we are able to contact you, your partner or your emergency contacts should an emergency arise.

Please check to confirm the phone numbers and email addresses on your details are correct, or alternatively amend as required.

Please also ensure we are aware of any updated living arrangements, independent students, students living in ‘Out of Home Care’ or any legal documentation the school should be made aware of.

Our Administration staff at the front office can support families who need some guidance on using Compass. Please contact the school office on 5996 3858 for assistance if needed.

The Compass Parent & Carers FAQ guide has been specifically designed to help you get the most out of your Compass experience.

Login for Mobile App - Update!

Forgotten passwords will be a thing of the past with our latest update to the Compass app. Our current authentication flow can cause confusion for our parent and carer users who share the same login details. It happens all the time, one parent forgets and resets the password resulting in the second parent getting locked out, causing an infinite loop and a frustrated parent community!

With this latest feature update, users have the option to sign in with their mobile number instead of a password. When users click on “Sign in with mobile number” they will be prompted to enter their username and mobile number, if the mobile number matches their Compass account they will get sent a one-time passcode which they enter in the next screen to log into the app.

Users also have the option to login with a one-time passcode using their email address by clicking “I want to use my email address”.

On every sign-in users will be sent a new one-time code.

What this means for our app users:

  • Easier and simpler passwordless login

  • Increased security and protection of student data

  • Reduced need to contact Support with login enquiries

  • Improved parent experience with the Compass app

  • Coherent experience between the app and web portal

News from New Holland Drive Campus

Welcome to Prep C!

Greetings from Prep D

This week during our Thursday Sports Program, we practised hitting a ball on the floor and in the air with a bat. We had so much fun practising our new skills outside in the sun.

We learnt about the letter P this weeks. P, p, p is for for popcorn. We POPPED POPCORN, then used it to create a popcorn art piece. Of course, we taste tested the popcorn too!

Who’s Who @Marnebek

Katie Ayrton | 10/11 B Teacher

Hi I am Katie Ayrton, teacher at the senior campus.  I have recently returned to Australia after 12 years living in New Zealand.

My husband and I have brought our cat with us but none of our 4 children have joined us, yet.  They are all adults, 3 live in New Zealand and 1 in Mexico.

Our gorgeous cat Athena is living with my mum in Boronia whilst we look for permanent accommodation.

I love the beach and try to get down there for walks as often as possible.

I have an embarrassing habit of liking zombie and vampire movies; I have watched too many to name!

An interesting fact about me is that I have met the current King and Queen of England.  I even have a gift from King (Prince) Charles.  He loves painting and Camilla is very kind and helpful.

Best thing about Marnebek is getting to teach the best kids at the school, sorry to all those not in 10/11B!  Amazing group of students!
