Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wow! What an amazing Week 4 we have had at Marnebek School. The buzz across both campuses with new buildings, facilities and the continued high expectations we all have in our school community and commitment to teaching & learning for all students.

The Student Support Group meetings have been very successful with more families booking each term to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress in their learning goals and planning for next semester. Thank you to Craig and Upul for cooking delicious sausages for our families (and staff!!).

Over the past few weeks, at the New Holland Drive campus, we have sports clinics for the Prep- Year 5 cohorts, ran by DS Sports, where the  students have participated in a variety of sports activities, such as, tennis, badminton, cricket, basketball just to name a few. The coaches have been fantastic, thank you to Juice for organising the great event!

Last week, we had a fantastic, engaging and high energy incursion called Junk Yard Beats. A huge thank you to Dylan, for organising this excellent incursion. The response from all students and staff was extremely positive and would highly recommend booking this yearly!

“For the past six years the group have performed all across Australia in major events, theatres, schools and festivals. Junkyard Beats are renowned for their dynamic rhythm shows. They present a series of high-energy routines that include drumming, body percussion, dance, junk percussion, circus and hilarious skits”.

Please remember to tune in each Friday at 9.50am to our WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES on WEBEX. We have a new segment, called, ‘random acts of kindness’ which has been such an excellent addition to the assemblies.

Have a great weekend & we look forward to seeing you all for Week 5 @ Marnebek School.

Kind regards,
Ruth Cameron | Assistant Principal | Learning Neighbourhood 1

Junkyard Beats Incursion

Hello there! It's wonderful to meet you. My name is Dylan Corcoran, and I'm a music therapist at Marnebek School. I'm excited to share with you all about an incredible company called JUNKYARD BEATS, who recently came to visit our school.

JUNKYARD BEATS is a company that takes everyday household items and recycled materials and turns them into musical instruments. Their visit was truly inspiring for our students, both in terms of music and sustainability. We couldn't have been more thrilled with their presence!

During their visit, they performed for both our campuses and provided workshops on music for our senior campus. Their infectious energy and creativity opened our eyes to new ways to appreciate music and showed us that it can be found everywhere. We were blown away by how seemingly ordinary objects could be recycled and transformed into musical instruments.

The best part was seeing our students and staff members having a blast. We discovered hidden talents amongst our students, and it was so rewarding to see them engaged and happy. Watching our students interact with one another and have a great time really warms the heart.

We're so grateful to Junkyard Beats for the amazing two days they spent with us, and we can't wait to welcome them back soon. Thank you for inspiring and educating our students about music and sustainability. We appreciate you!

Inclusion 21

On Tuesday, the 16/05/23 we had a dance company come in called Inclusion 21 and provide their first dance lessons to students who wished to participate. We split the year levels up so students had the opportunity to learn to dance with their peers. There was one special all girls group who had a few students from each year level come and join. During these 45 min sessions students got to learn specific movements and interact with their peers. This will be a weekly session every Tuesday where students will learn specific routines to hopefully perform in the future.

Some feedback from the students;

  • “I loved learning the love heart”

  • “I can’t wait for next week”

  • “That was so much fun”

  • “It was like I was exercising whilst dancing”

  • Heaps of smiles and lots of thumbs up from students and staff.

Greetings from classroom 10/11 C

“TIME AND TIDE WAITS FOR NO ONE” is so apt for us at Marnebek. Term 2 is almost half way through! The students have settled well into the new facilities. They are busy with their curricular as well as extra - curricular activities. The Duke of Ed students have been enjoying their volunteering at Gumbuya World and learning the importance of doing their best even in conditions that are at times not according to their liking.

In the field of work experience, Duke of Ed students are thoroughly enjoying their hands on work at Waverly Industries. The photos will speak for themselves!! We are so proud of our students who have been bringing us stories of success from programs they attend such as; Make N Bake, Retail and Hair & Beauty during the week. They are all excited about the skills they are developing for their future life and work.

Who’s Who @Marnebek

Craig Gardiner | Food Tech Instructor

What do I love about my job?

Delivering valuable life skills to our students in the form of correct nutrition, kitchen hygiene and safety; and the fun of creating a tasty meal to share with their families is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role at Marnebek. The students bring a great work ethic and eagerness to learn into our kitchen, which make our sessions high energy and full of fun and new experiences. Following and researching recipes allows our students to practise their literacy and numeracy skills, while cooking together develops friendships and crucial social skills.  Seeing smiles and getting positive feedback from the students is the best part of my day.

What do you do in your spare time?

I, of course, cook at home and enjoy sharing a meal with my family and friends. I also own and operate a Martial Arts dojo, teaching both adults and juniors self-defense skills. I have 2 black belts in 2 different styles and I’m currently working on my third black belt. I love music and have been playing the acoustic and electric guitar from a very young age. I play basketball in a team on a Sunday night, which keeps me fit and healthy. I really love to ride motorbikes, both dirt and road bikes.

My family

I have known my wife since we were 13 years old and have been married for 15 years. We have 2 beautiful children, our son Isaac 13, and our daughter Ruby 12. I also have a very cheeky dog named Rusty.  We love to travel as a family whether it is overseas or short-day trips on the weekend.
