Message from the Principal’s Office
Dear Parents and Carers,
Autumn is upon us which typically means we are over edging closer to the end of Term one. With four weeks it is great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and set goals during the SSG meetings. Student Support Group (SSG) meetings will be held next Tuesday 5th March from 10am- 6pm. These meetings will be a 30-minute block with a requirement that your child attends with you. Your child only needs to be in attendance on this day for the SSG meeting.
An SSG is a partnership between schools, parents/carers, the student, and relevant agencies. The group works together to plan and support the educational, health, social, cultural, and emotional wellbeing of students. During the meeting, we work together to establish short-term goals that will lead to the achievement of long-term goals.
This is a change from previous years due to the following reasons:
· SSG day will give teachers greater access to families to comply with the new Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP’s) rollout which supports the needs of your child.
· Specialist programs will be on display throughout the school with interactive activities available
· Our new Gym and Resource Intensive Buildings are now open, and we would like to give you the opportunity to take a tour and explore the new spaces
Last week our Koori students attended an indigenous performance at Bunjil Place with a fantastic performance by Jacob Boehme. Jacob demonstrated contemporary dance to Koori school students in the Casey area.
This term the Year 11 and 12 students have been participating weekly in Industry Focused Skills (IFS) each Wednesday. Students selected which focus area that felt would support their development as they start thinking about which pathway they will head into when they graduate from Marnebek. The focus areas are travel training, hands on learning (woodwork), Technology, sport and recreation (Chisholm Tafe), hospitality, music, garden maintenance (Gumbuya World) and supportive life skills.
In exciting news, Luke Bennett and his wife Ally welcomed a new baby girl during the week, little baby Ava! Congratulations to you both, from the whole Marnebek Community.
We look forward to seeing families next week on SSG day, please take the opportunity to also explore the new buildings and spaces that have opened at New Holland Drive Campus. Have a great weekend.

The above parents and staff whose current term has ended, other than those who no longer have children at our school or who no longer work at our school, are eligible to seek re-election.
If you would like to be nominated or self-nominate yourself, please contact the school office on 59963858 for the appropriate form which we can email out to you or alternatively you can pick it up from the office. Completed forms can be emailed to the school email address marnebek.sch.cranbourne@education.vic.gov.au or dropped at the school office on either campus.

In the event that we do not receive sufficient nominations in all categories by the close of nominations on Friday 8th March 2024 at 4.00pm, then I will extend the timeline for receiving further nominations by one week.
Should we receive more nominations than vacancies in any category, then a formal election ballot will be conducted in each category.
In the event that we receive exactly the number of nominations in either or both categories, then I will declare those nominated persons duly elected on 8th March 2024 and subsequently welcomed onto School Council at next meeting on Tuesday 26th March 2024.
School Council elections – information for parents
What is a school council and what does it do?
All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the broad direction of a school, in accordance with Ministerial Order 1280 Constitution of Government School Councils, and the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. In doing this, a school council may directly influence the quality of education for students.
Who is on School Council?
- Parents x 6
- Staff members x3
- Optional community member x1
- Student members ( x2)
Why is parent membership so important?
Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills and a range of experiences and knowledge that can help inform and shape the direction of the school.
Those parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging.
Do I need special experience to be on school council?
Each member brings their own valuable skills and knowledge to the role, however, in order to successfully perform their duties, councillors may need to gain some new skills and knowledge.
It is important to have an interest in your child’s school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school’s future
How do I get nominated?
Option 1: You can ask someone to nominate you as a candidate (it needs to be another parent of the school)
Option 2: You can nominate yourself.

News from New Holland Drive Campus
Welcome to 1B
Welcome to 2/3’s
The grade 2/3 students were lucky enough to be able to use our new resource building for a special inquiry incursion. 5 Stations were set up and accessed by all students to complete. We had a story time station in our new library, where we read Possum Magic and completed a threading activity. In one of our new STEM rooms, we had Learn to Play, where we continued to develop our skills in communication, socialisation and playing. In the other two STEM rooms we had digital coding activities around the educational game of Minecraft, followed by how to make and how to blow bubbles in a sensory science activity around solids, liquids and gases. Our grand finale was in the new open performance space where we were able to move and groove to different movements and sung songs
Welcome to 5/6’s
We have had a great and exciting start to the year in grade 5/6. We have enjoyed coming back to school by being able to see our friends again and getting back into routine.
Something we have been enjoying is our science lessons each week. Last week our focus was on float or sink. We had so much fun testing out different objects to see if they would float or sink. We love using a hands-on learning approach in the classroom as it has been making learning more fun and enjoyable. We have also been enjoying getting back into our Read, Write Inc phonics which has already seen an improvement in our phonics skills.
Every week we have had our grade 5/6 PLC assembly, having everyone join has been great to see. Each assembly includes student of week, SWPBS focus and our favourite item, BINGO!
We are looking forward to a great and exciting year ahead in grade 5/6!

Welcome to 6B
Students are doing place values using MAB.
MAB ( multi-base arithmetic blocks) are made up of small blocks or cubes that represent units, tens, hundreds, and thousands in the decimal system. Students use them to manipulate and visualise numbers and their place value, as well as build their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division! Students use the blocks to group the ones, tens, and hundreds together, and then count up to find the total.

Welcome to 11A & Parks and Gardens
This week saw us begin swimming lessons at Casey Race. This is such a valuable life skill for us. We travelled there by school bus. We all showed our school values whilst out in the community and had a great time. We look forward to the coming weeks where we get to go swimming each Thursday for this term.
Welcome to
Parks and Gardens 2024
This year the Parks and Gardens class have commenced a new certificate. It is called Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystems Management. This course is delivered across 2 days per week and consists of both training and paid employment.
The students have made a great start and have been learning about work health and safety procedures along with operating some basic machinery and equipment. This week they also enjoyed a site visit to the Advance College Nursery in Mornington.
The students are also enjoying the opportunity to participate in other fantastic programs during the school week such as our Industry Specific Groups on Wednesdays, Swimming at Casey Race and Electives programs on Fridays.

What I like most about my work: Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful which has made my transition into the school very enjoyable. I have also enjoyed getting to know some of the families and students.
My spare time: I love spending time with my family (Hubby, daughter 14 and son 13) and walking my dog Harley who is a Boxer. As a family we have also recently taken up kayaking which has been a lot of fun. I enjoy watching football, both AFL and my sons footy. I dabble in crafts and have been learning to make new creations on my Cricut. I also enjoy going to the movies.
