Message from the Principal’s Office
Luke Bennett
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are now into the second half of Term 3 and it has certainly been busy at all four of our campuses. Below is a snapshot of some of the great events that have happened over the last two weeks.
School Formal
Last night we held our school Formal for our year 10, 11 and 12 students at Alencia in Dandenong. It was a fantastic evening of celebration with students dressed to impress! There was great music, lots of dancing and a sit-down meal to celebrate student’s successes at school. Well done to everyone involved!
Commonwealth Games Fundraiser
Last Friday we had a Commonwealth Games dress up day which complemented the learning that had occurred in classrooms but we also raised $450 which is going towards Grade student Teikaii on his journey to Adelaide to compete in Cross Country at the national championships at the end of August.
5/6 Camp
Last week, 16 students from Grade 5/6 attended an Outdoor Education Camp at Blackwood. The focus was on teamwork and this was the first camp the students had ever been on! The activities included team games, bush cooking, high ropes, biking and a camp fire, to name a few. Well done to all of the students for demonstrating our school values whilst on camp and a big thanks to the staff who made this possible.
Every Day Counts
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school. Please see the table below for how missed days at school adds up and results in a huge amount of lost learning time.
Have a fantastic weekend ahead and rest up for a great last few weeks of Term 3.
Kind regards,
Luke Bennett | Assistant Principal

The Amazing 3/4 A!
We have had a great week in 3/4 A. This week for maths we have been focussing on addition and measurement. We love using a hands on learning approach in the classroom. This week we have been using a range of hands on materials including 10 frames, dice, counters and blocks. We were using blocks to measure different items in the classroom. We also used dice, counters and 10 frames to work on addition.
One thing we are looking forward to next week is Book Week and in particular dress up day! Also, keep an eye out for the exciting costumes by students and teachers!

Blackwood Outdoor Education Camp
News from Learning Neighbourhood 2 | Cranbourne Primary School
This week some of us in 5/6 were lucky enough to go on a camp. We went on a 1 hour and 49 minute bus ride to Blackwood camp, where we had heaps of fun doing lots of different team build activities.
Once we arrived we put our bags away and then we did our first activity, The Trial of Trust – Were one person put a blindfold on whilst another person helped them move around the course. We all were very nervous but also excited.
Later that day we got to go rock climbing where we were all very scared but we all did our best to climb the wall.
After dinner that night we went on a night walk where we were all very cold.
On Tuesday we woke up early and played the Imagination Games where we had to work together to complete many different challenges. For Lunch we had baked potatoes that we cooked in the camp fire. They were delicious! After lunch we went on the High Ropes Activity and we all challenged ourselves. We then had a campfire after dinner where we got to roast marsh mellows.
On our Last day we got up and packed our bags so that we were ready to leave. We then did our last activity Bike Riding and headed home.
Overall we had an amazing time on camp even though it was really, really cold!!!

National Science Week 2022
National Science Week | 13th -21st August
The school theme for National Science Week in 2022 is Glass: More than meets the eye.
The theme is based on the UN International Year of Glass and celebrates the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibre to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future.
During National Science Week, students at Marnebek were involved in various activities related to this year’s theme. Students learnt about how glass is made and its various uses in our daily life. Students in LN1 investigated how magnifying glass works whereas LN4 actually made their very own magnifying glasses. LN2 and LN3 students learnt about the different properties of glass and conducted experiments using glass jars. Great work everyone!
Marnebek Formal 2022
Last night’s Formal was a huge success! The students celebrated in style and had a night to remember. It was truly beautiful to see each student relishing in their own special moments, and to see the proud smiles beaming from family members, friends and loved ones. Congratulations to each and every one of you!
A massive Thank You to the Formal Team for organising it all! There were many weeks of preparation to produce such a remarkable evening! More photos and videos will be coming over the next week, so make sure you check out our FB Group and FB Page!

Dianne Marshall - Education Support
Hi My name is Dianne Marshall and I’m an ES at Cranbourne West campus. I started at Marnebek in May this year, and before working with Marnebek, I worked as Education Support with Gre8, which is a RTO organisation for VCAL students with special needs to do a School-based apprenticeship and traineeship (SBAT). I was based in their Make ‘n Bake program.
I wanted to work in a school-based environment for kids with special needs. Working with special needs kids can be challenging at times, but it is also the most rewarding job I have ever experienced.
In my spare time, I like to spend time with my 4 year old granddaughter as she wants her nana to play Barbies all day long.
My favourite food is Italian, Chinese and Chocolate (UNFORTUNATELY).
Fleetwood Mac is my favourite band and my favourite movie is Sleepless in Seattle.
I love going on road trips with my partner, especially when the weather is fine, so we can cruise in the Mustang.
I love to travel and my two favourite places that I visited while on my Mediterranean Cruise was Taormina in Italy and Santorini in Greece. I hope one day, I get to go back.

SCHOOL UPDATES
Smoking and vaping
Parents, carers, schools, and community all play an important role in protecting children and young people from, and educating them about, the harmful effects of smoking and vaping.
Research from the Royal Children’s Hospital shows many parents and carers are not aware of the harmful effects or how their views about smoking and vaping can impact the likelihood of a young person taking up smoking or vaping.
The Department of Education and Training has collated resources to help you learn more about the health risks of smoking and vaping, and some suggestions about how to talk to your child about vaping, and where to get support.
This includes a video from experts at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne with tips for parents for starting a conversation with teenagers about vaping.
