Message from the Principal’s Office
Ruth Cameron
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 4! The first two weeks of this term have flown by, with so many exciting learning opportunities and programs for our students. Term 4 is always a very exciting and busy term, with many fantastic events to celebrate the learning of all of our students.
The school building works are coming along really nicely. The new administration block at Corrigans Road has been completed and looks fantastic. There are new offices, staffroom and a first aid room that has been finished, it is such an exciting time for our school.
School Council was held on Tuesday the 11th October, a big thank you to all our members for such a positive meeting. One agenda item, was a letter of request from classroom 103, for play equipment and furniture for the new building with each member of the class signing the letter. Nash, one of the students, attended School Council to read out the letter. Thank you for attending Nash.
Our Prep to Year 8 students have begun a Reading Scope & Sequence Trial, with a focus for 3 weeks, with 1 new reading strategy introduced to support the learning. Watch out for the ‘Eagle Eye’ strategy around the school!
Marnebek School has partnered with Casey Tech School at Chisholm Tafe. Casey Tech School is a shared learning facility that delivers high-tech, leading edge courses to students from 23 secondary schools in the Casey region. Casey Tech School delivers innovative and real-world education programs in partnership with local industries and community groups, helping to prepare students for the jobs of the future. The programs emphasise the vital Enterprise and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills needed for the 21st century. What an exciting opportunity for our Secondary Pathways students!
Wishing you all a safe and happy weekend & we look forward to what the rest of Term 4 brings.
Kind regards,
Ruth Cameron | Assistant Principal

Marnebek’s House System
At Marnebek School, we have six houses. Warinj (orange), Gawarn (red), Walert (blue), Bunjil (green), Kuyim (black) and Waa (yellow).
These houses are very important to our school, because the houses separate our students and staff across their school into houses. These also represent indigenous animals and birds from the area. The artwork for the four houses was created and drawn by our students. Students gain points for their house if they display our three values (respect, resilience and responsibility). This can be when we go out for athletics, cross country and things like that. Students wear their house colour with pride and go to their designated house groups.
Points are awarded for great behaviour while we’re out in the community. On Fridays during assembly, the house winners are announced and are put on our SWPBS Champions board and the students who earn the most points for their house get a certificate for their excellent work.

FAQ
Where can I access my child's reports?
Access and download your student’s reports with ease. Simply:
1. Login to your school’s Compass Portal.
2. Select the View Academic Reports option below your student’s name. This should redirect you to a page showing all progress and semester reports available.
3. Select the name of the report you are interested in viewing, and this should automatically begin the download process.
Friendly Note: if your child has since left/graduated from school, you won’t be able to access their reports through Compass, and will instead need to follow-up with the school.
How do I change my contact details?
Ensure that you never miss a thing by keeping your contact details up-to-date. To do this:
1. Login to your Compass account, and select the Cog Icon in the top right-hand corner of the page.
2. Select Update My Details from the dropdown menu provided.
3. Fill in your new details as desired, then select the Update My Details button to save.
Compass is our primary parent communication tool for day-to-day operational matters, upcoming events, notices and notifications so it is essential that all parents download the app.

News from Learning Neighbourhood 1 New Holland Drive Campus
Greetings from the Prep Team
In Prep to Year 8 we have introduced a new Reading Scope and Sequence Trial for our students learning!
For three weeks we are focusing on 1 strand & sub of Reading & Viewing from the Victorian Curriculum including a reading strategy to support our students’ learning!
Week 1-3 this term we have focused on:
Language: Text Structure and Organisation!
Reading Strategy: Eagle Eye!
See some great pictures of our students learning! What fun they have had!
News from Classroom 3/4 E
This week we have learnt about the Social skill to take turns with Allied Health. Children first dance to the Stop and Go dance. Then they waited to sit patiently to take turns for riding skate boards and to swirl in the swirly. Well done o showing our school values "Respect’ and ‘Responsibility'‘.
Children also used the Lamp device for our Stop and Go sign.

News from 1/2 B
Throughout the term we are using “EAGLE EYE” reading strategy that is helping us decode(read) tricky words. Eagle eye is the process of using pictures to help figure out unknown words.
How can you support at home.
Encourage your child to look at the pictures when they are stuck on a word. Model the strategy for them. Read a sentence and pretend to be stuck on a word, thinking out loud say “I wonder if I can use the picture clues to help me?” and show them how you figure out the tricky word.
This week we are exploring “The Very Hungry Cater Pillar.” We used Eagle eye strategy to decode many words from the story. Reading through “The very Hungry Cater Pillar” we learnt Story sequencing, Days of the week, measuring length, Shortest to longest and many more to go.

11/12 A
11/12A have had a very busy start to the term. We are back completing our work experience at Waverley Industries where we gain an understanding of the work environment and what is expected of us in a workplace. This week at Waverley Industries, we have been helping the staff unpack make-up to be put in gift bags for Christmas.
We have also been working hard to achieve our hours for our Duke of Edinburgh Award. Playing basketball and taking walks in the community has earned us physical activity hours, picking up rubbish in the community has earned us community service hours, and cooking has earned us skill hours. This week in cooking we made rice paper rolls which we all enjoyed making and eating
We have also been working on all areas of the curriculum. This week in numeracy we have enjoyed using informal units to measure the lengths of items in the classroom.
It has been a great start to the term!
