Remembrance Day
Reflecting on the importance of Remembrance Day each year is very important to our school. Remembrance Day has been observed since the end of the First World War to remember armed forces members who died in the line of duty. We want to help students develop an understanding of the sacrifices our brave men and women made to ensure the freedom we all have each day. Additionally, our school’s values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility tie in with the sacrifices each soldier made and continues to make.
We commenced our observation of Remembrance Day with an interactive morning session activity catered to each year level. Traditionally, at 11am each Remembrance Day, our school captains lay a wreath at the local war memorial supported by the Cranbourne RSL. This year, due to Covid restrictions, the captains laid a wreath at a ceremony held on both of our respective campuses, with a minute’s silence following.
During the day, students across all year levels learnt about the significance of Remembrance Day and what the poppy represents. We were happy to see that all our students were engaged in the day’s activities.
Whilst we were not able to visit the local war memorial, it was a pleasure to celebrate Remembrance Day as a whole school, in light of the limit on all-school gatherings 2020 has brought. We hope the examples of our valiant soldiers will live on in our students’ memories, helping them to better appreciate the freedom we possess and greater aspire to our school values.
